Stars ans Stripes

Saturday, July 2, 2011
Ok so the 4th is this weekend....yay!

If you need a cute and simple treat for your festivities this weekend you could always make these...

Seriously, they're EASY

What you'll need:

rectangular cookies
blue icing - piping and flood consistency
white icing - piping and flood consistency
red icing - piping consistency - in a bag (or bottle) equipped with a #3 tip.
red sanding sugar

Step1:

Pipe a blue square

Step2:

Pipe a white border

Step3:

Fill

Step 4:

Once the icing is completely dry, take your red piping icing and pipe red lines for your stripes.  Dust with sanding sugar.

Finish off with some dots for stars and your done!! :)

See that was almost so simple, making a tutorial for them was almost laughable.  :)

Cupcakes And Cameras

Friday, July 1, 2011
So not too much going on over here...

I mean besides the general chaos...

Nothing much.

Just finished some cookies for a wedding in New York (hoity toity!).  They were made to match the wedding invitation.  The theme was cupcakes and cameras.

I gotta say with wedding cookies....

that is just a whole lot of film....

It's July people can you believe it?!  Do me a solid and DO NOT let me forget my wedding anniversary this month in the midst of all this craziness...that would be un-cool on my part....tres tres unromantic

So coming up this month....

A couple tutorials...yay!  I know I've been promising some tutorials so...
Don't get too excited...only one of them is awesome and it's for a friends site so you will all have to go over there to see it....don't worry I'll let you know when it's there.

Gearing up for the 4th!  We will be traveling to Joplin for the holiday.  I haven't been up there since the tornado hit.  Hubby says it isn't the same.  I still have images of that town in my minds eye and I just can't quite grasp that it wont be the same next time I see it.  To me the hospital is still there, the neighborhoods, Pizza by Stout (I'm aching about that one)...it's weird to think that it will all be altered.

.......

And on that cheerful note I will now wish everyone a wonderful holiday weekend.  :)
Shoot off explosives, drink beer (and then stay home!), and grill some meat.  Play with the kids.  Turn on the water sprinklers and run through it...bust out the light sabers and battle it out Jedi style...what? y'all don't do that every 4th of July?  Just us?  Oh...well that isn't awkward...

I need sleep.  Goodnight Neverland....

Ali your cookies are absolutely super-duper! You are definitely the best I've ever seen, hands down. (I swear) You inspired me to start my own cookie business here at my home. I've only been doing it about 3 months. I am a stay at home mother of a 20 month old and am now expecting our 2nd! I've been a follower ever since I found your blog! Does all this make me smart? :) Maybe not "smart" but I do have good "sense"!! <3-YOUR-WORK!

1:  Obviously a dozen personalized cookies from moi...list your demands....

2:  Cookie Craft!  I will be giving away a copy of Cookie Craft so if you are looking for a great book to learn the basic ins and outs of cookie decorating you will want to win this give-a-way!

3:  The piece de resistance, 3 GORGEOUS hand crafted copper cutters from Ecrandal!  I have mentioned on several occasions (at least on FB) how much I ADORE these cutters.  They have the most unique designs available (some of which have been designed by fellow cookie friends of mine) and the quality is UNBELIEVABLE!!  Honestly, my favorite cutters are Ecrandal cutters.  And Eric and Jaime are some of the nicest people you'll meet.  A pleasure to do business with.

** My favorite Dress Cutter - Julia**

Anyway, they have graciously gifted 3 of my favorites just for this give-a-way.  Julia, Plaque, and 'Cheep' Bird.  *swoon*

Let The Games BEGIN!!!  :)

It's June Y'all....Let The Wedding Season Begin

It's JUNE!!  Which means the official arrival of sun and hot weather here in Texas.  Time to break out the swimsuits and sunscreen folks...it's summer!

Also .... Wedding Season.

I foresee a lot of wedding dress cookies in my future...

So let's start of the season with these.

The colors were purple and green.  Hot color combo this season (or so I've heard)...

And we all remember these...

Return of the Peacock.  My most requested item...

Anyways, this is just the beginning.  I am sure there will be LOTS more wedding cookies before the summer is over.  That's ok with me.  I love wedding cookies :)

May 22, 2011

Friday, May 27, 2011
As many of you may know, on May 22, 2011 the deadliest single tornado in US history tore through the small, quiet town of Joplin, Mo killing over 120 people*.

Now many of you might not be familiar with this jewel right off historic Route 66, but since I met my husband back in 2002, I have come to love this town.  While it's a town of 50,000, it is the central hub to many surrounding towns and communities.  It's one of those places where everyone knows everyone (whether you like it or not).  Where there's a deep sense of community.  Small businesses outnumber larger corporate establishments.  I swear some of the best pizza I have ever eaten in my life has been at a tiny little place off Rangeline Rd.  And for the last 3 years I have spent about one weekend a month visiting family and friends in Joplin.

But now it's gone.  People are missing.  Businesses, schools, neighborhoods...all leveled and buried under a pile of debris.  My father in law even worked at the St. Johns hospital that was damaged.

I can't be there to help and I wish I could.  But I have a toddler to raise.  My husband already left to do his part helping his home town recover from the devastation.  He calls me everyday with a new heartbreaking story.  Today he told me the tale of a young man he went to high school with that used his own body as a human shield to protect his wife and child from the storm.  He was just released from the hospital with a beaten body to find his home destroyed and in need of the charity of others.

So!  There is only one thing to do....

Host an auction.

Ali Bee's Bake Shop is pairing up with JP Creatibles to host an online auction to raise money for Joplin Disaster Relief**.  We want to make this big people!  Lets raise some money and help this tight knit community.  But first we need generous people like you to help lend a hand.  We are looking for anyone who wants to donate goods and services for auction.  I know I have a cookie/baking blog but you don't have to be a baker to be involved.  This is an open call for anyone who wants to help!  I will naturally be contributing my own items to the cause and I hope you will consider participating too.  If your not into crafting or donating items please come back and bid!

For more updates and information please head over to Prayers, Love & Joplin!!

* Final death count is yet to be determined.

Tangled Up!!

Wednesday, May 25, 2011
Tangled up in Love.....

Or whatever.

Anyway, have you seen the movie Tangled?  Love it.  The frying pan thing??  Genius.

Ok now y'all I do not do characters....not often.  So that lady in the middle was the only one I made.  It was very tedious.

Anyways!!  Not much to write about at the moment.  Lots of stuff going on in my life right now....which I will write about later.  After it has all blown over.

Hope everyone is having a great week.
