Halloween 2011

Monday, October 31, 2011
Happy Halloween y'all!!!

First off I want to take this moment to talk about something that might sound like I'm tooting my horn....and if I wanted to I would...because it's my blog and I can...

Here is last years Halloween cookies:

They're allright...nothing to write home about but good....I was very happy with these when I shipped them off to my old college dorm neighbor :)
Stay with me...I actually have a point.  I used to look at my favorite bloggers and wonder why my stuff didn't look quite like theirs.  I used the same icings, I tried the same techniques, I followed the tutorials, but mine just didn't have the same...sumthin' sumthin'....
I guess I am writing this because I want to emphasize the importance of practice...those Halloween cookies were hundreds of cookies ago.  I mean since then and now I have decorated HUNDREDS of cookies, much to the chagrin of my ever growing carpal tunnel.
Over time, and practice I feel that now I may have reached a stride...finally after a year and a half I have reached a level where I am content with my abilities.  Not to say that I wont ALWAYS be learning something new, or that I wont ALWAYS be trying to improve myself.  BECAUSE I WILL.....that's the great thing about learning...it never stops.  I love it.
So if you have a day where you feel like you're just never going to be as good as Jane blogger on the internet, don't give up.  KEEP PRACTICING!  You will find your style, your niche, your stride.
Who knows, one day I will probably look back on this post and say wow....I was crap back then.
Who knows...

This years Halloween cookies (which I love) may not be the best I see in what I hope is a long love affair with cookies, but a year and hundreds of cookies later I can finally see my growth...and that feels good

Bridal Luncheon

Tuesday, October 11, 2011
Again, no time to write so here's the pic!

Quick and simple.
Although now it occurs to me, perhaps I should write a post about how I design a cookie collection / how I use inspiration...hmm.  That could be a fun post.

Shabby Chic Wedding

Friday, September 16, 2011
ok....so as you might know (or you might not...I mean I don't assume that you might know my every move...tho you should...duh), I'm in the process of moving to Missouri.

Well we're here.  Husband just signed his job contracts yesterday so I guess at this point it's permanent.  However, we still aren't moved in so life is still moving at a hectic pace.  We are currently renovating a home that was damaged in the tornado so free time has been scarce.  *sigh*  Let's not even start talking about living out of a suitcase for the last month....I miss my shoes....

Anywho, I don't want to continue to put off the blogging till we are all settled in because that means I will have been post-less for MONTHS and that just will not do.  So I will continue to update my blog while we renovate and attempt to assimilate to Joplin life.  BUT we're looking at less talk-y talk-y and more pic-y pic-y...yes, I know you're crushed that you wont be subjected to the ramblings of the crazy cookie lady... (ok, you can stop the happy dance)

So here ya go, cookies done for a shabby chic wedding shower with no written explination or ramblings.

Well from here on anyway...

Till next time :)

Moving

Thursday, August 11, 2011
Sorry guys, I haven't been ignoring you...really...not intentionally anyway....

First my computer goes out and I am without internet and picture uploading capabilities for weeks!  It was TORTURE!!  But now I have a loaner from my Mom-in-law. So I can TRY to catch up.... *whew* crisis averted there.... but now....

WE'RE MOVING!!!
Guess where....

Yerp...JOMO. (That's Joplin, Missouri...)

(is it just me or is it totally hard to differenciate between the state of Missouri and Alabama??  Am I the only one seeing the similarities in shape??  It IS just me?  Harsh...)

We are repairing the damage to a home in Joplin (and when I say "we" I mean mostly my lovely MIL) and should be in sometime before October but we have to be out of our current place before the end of August...so we will be a bit nomadic for a month or so... but that's no biggie, I spent most of my college years as a nomad so I'm good.  (and yes, I always had an apartment in college, but I spent so much time going to Houston to see my folks or to Dallas to see my friends that I was hardly there unless it was the middle of the week and I was asleep...)

I have to bid farewell to my beautiful Texas...*oh how I love thee...*  To say that I am a tad stressed would be an understatement. I am STRESSED OUT OF MY MIND!! (Hence my insane rambling today)  The moving truck comes tomorrow and its like 11:00am and we aren't even close to being finished yet!!!

So...that is why I have been absent.  Really once I get plugged in and settled I am going to have TONS of cookie posts...and some before and afters of the house we're moving into perhaps.

Ok, now where did I put that packing tape?

Stars ans Stripes

Saturday, July 2, 2011
Ok so the 4th is this weekend....yay!

If you need a cute and simple treat for your festivities this weekend you could always make these...

Seriously, they're EASY

What you'll need:

rectangular cookies
blue icing - piping and flood consistency
white icing - piping and flood consistency
red icing - piping consistency - in a bag (or bottle) equipped with a #3 tip.
red sanding sugar

Step1:

Pipe a blue square

Step2:

Pipe a white border

Step3:

Fill

Step 4:

Once the icing is completely dry, take your red piping icing and pipe red lines for your stripes.  Dust with sanding sugar.

Finish off with some dots for stars and your done!! :)

See that was almost so simple, making a tutorial for them was almost laughable.  :)
